Earth, the middle region, heaven, the quarters, the intermediate quarters; fire, wind, sun, moon, stars; waters, plants, trees, space, the body: so much concerning beings. Now concerning the self: in-breath, diffused breath, out-breath, up-breath, the breath that unites; sight, hearing, mind, speech, touch; skin, flesh, sinew, bone, marrow. Having set these out, the seer said: 'All this is fivefold. By the fivefold one fills the fivefold.'

Meaning today and context

The same patterns run through the world outside and the body within. Seeing oneself as part of the larger order, not apart from it, is the point of the meditation.

Taittirīya 1.7.1: a meditation on the world as fivefold (pāṅkta), listing groups of five in nature and in the body; the seer concludes that the fivefold within fills the fivefold without.
