O mighty one, the goddess Shri herself vies like a co-wife with this forest garland of yours, faded though it is. May your foot, which accepts the worship we offer with this garland, always be the fire that burns up our impure tendencies.
Meaning today and context
A simple garland of wild flowers, even a wilted one, is dearer to the Lord than splendour, because of the love with which it is given. What matters in an offering is the heart, not its price.
The gods say even Shri (Lakshmi) envies, like a co-wife, Krishna's faded forest garland, because he accepts worship offered with it; they pray his foot may burn their impurities.
