Uddhava Gita 1.17

1.17 Gods to Krishna

tattasthūṣaśca jagataśca bhavānadhīśo | yanmāyayotthaguṇavikriyayopanītān | arthāñjuṣannapi hṛṣīkapate na lipto | ye'nye svataḥ parihṛtādapi bibhyati sma ||

So you are the Lord of all that moves and does not move. O master of the senses, though you enjoy the objects brought before you by the changes of the guṇas that arise from your māyā, you are not tainted by them; while others are afraid even of the things they have themselves given up.

Meaning today and context

Giving something up outwardly is not the same as being free of it; a person can still be haunted by what they have renounced. True freedom is inner, where enjoyment no longer grips.

The gods say Krishna enjoys the objects of the senses yet is untouched by them, while others fear even the objects they have already given up.
