Uddhava Gita 10.4

10.4 Krishna to Uddhava

aṇimā mahimā mūrterlaghimā prāptirindriyaiḥ | prākāmyaṃ śrutadṛṣṭeṣu śaktipreraṇamīśitā ||

Aṇimā (becoming minute), mahimā (becoming vast) and laghimā (becoming light) concern the body; prāpti (reaching) works through the senses; prākāmya is enjoying whatever is heard of or seen; īśitā is directing power (over others);

अणिमा (अत्यंत सूक्ष्म होना), महिमा (विशाल होना) और लघिमा (हल्का होना) शरीर से संबंधित हैं; प्राप्ति इन्द्रियों के द्वारा (किसी भी विषय तक पहुँच) है; सुने और देखे विषयों का इच्छानुसार भोग प्राकाम्य है; शक्ति को प्रेरित करना ईशिता है;

This verse states what the Bhāgavata claims about yogic powers (siddhis); it is not a feat to attempt or test, and it proves nothing about anyone. Be wary of anyone who sells, demonstrates or promises such powers, or asks for money or obedience in return. Krishna himself calls these powers obstacles that waste the seeker's time (UG.10.33).

Meaning today and context

This is part of the text's catalogue of yogic powers, not something anyone can do or demonstrate. What it shows is how the Bhāgavata ranks such powers: below devotion, and as a distraction from it.

Krishna names the first of the eight principal powers.
