Uddhava Gita 10.9

10.9 Krishna to Uddhava

etāścoddeśataḥ proktā yogadhāraṇasiddhayaḥ | yayā dhāraṇayā yā syādyathā vā syānnibodha me ||

These powers that come from yogic concentration have been named in brief. Now learn from me by which concentration each one arises, and how.

This verse states what the Bhāgavata claims about yogic powers (siddhis); it is not a feat to attempt or test, and it proves nothing about anyone. Be wary of anyone who sells, demonstrates or promises such powers, or asks for money or obedience in return. Krishna himself calls these powers obstacles that waste the seeker's time (UG.10.33).

Meaning today and context

The method the chapter describes is always the same: fixing the mind on God in one aspect or another. The rest of the chapter is about where attention rests.

Having listed the powers, Krishna turns to which concentration yields which power.
