dharmāṇāmasmi sannyāsaḥ kṣemāṇāmabahirmatiḥ | guhyānāṃ sūnṛtaṃ maunaṃ mithunānāmajastvaham ||
Among duties I am renunciation; among kinds of safety, a mind not turned outward; among secrets, gentle true speech and silence; among pairs I am Aja (Brahmā, the first of couples).
Renunciation here is an inner letting go; it is not advice to abandon family, work or responsibilities.
Meaning today and context
Real safety comes from a mind that does not depend on things outside. And what to keep private is best guarded by kind speech and by silence.
Krishna lists his vibhūtis (manifestations of glory) to Uddhava (Bhāgavata 11.16), a list close to Gita chapter 10. Among dharmas he is renunciation, among kinds of security the inward-turned mind, among secrets kind speech and silence, among couples Brahmā.
