Uddhava Gita 12.20

12.20 Krishna to Uddhava

aśaucamanṛtaṃ steyaṃ nāstikyaṃ śuṣkavigrahaḥ | kāmaḥ krodhaśca tarṣaśca sa bhāvo'ntyāvasāyinām ||

Impurity, untruth, theft, unbelief, pointless quarrelling, lust, anger and craving: this is the disposition of those outside the varnas.

This verse attributes vices to people outside the varna order, a prejudice of its time and not the app's view. It must never be used to demean, exclude or treat anyone as 'untouchable'; untouchability is abolished and punishable in India (Constitution, Article 17).

Meaning today and context

Read as a list of vices that make anyone's life smaller (lying, stealing, pointless fights, lust, anger, craving), not as a description of any group of people.

Krishna describes to Uddhava the nature of the antyavasayins, those at the margins outside the four varnas, as marked by vices.
