12.21 Krishna to Uddhava

Non-harming, truthfulness, not stealing, freedom from lust, anger and greed, and striving for what pleases and benefits all beings: this is the dharma for every varna.

Meaning today and context

Whatever your role, the basics are the same for everyone: do no harm, tell the truth, don't take what isn't yours, master anger and greed, and work for others' good.

Krishna tells Uddhava the dharma common to all people of every varna.
