Uddhava Gita 12.56

12.56 Krishna to Uddhava

yastvāsaktamatirgehe putravittaiṣaṇāturaḥ | straiṇaḥ kṛpaṇadhīrmūḍho mamāhamiti badhyate ||

But one whose mind clings to the home, tormented by craving for sons and wealth, ruled by desire for women, miserly in outlook and deluded, is bound by the thought 'I and mine'.

'Ruled by desire for women' is about one's own craving, never blame of women. Wanting a family and a livelihood is not wrong; the verse is about obsessive clinging.

Meaning today and context

The trap is not family or money themselves but the anxious grip of 'me and mine' on them. That grip makes us small, fearful and unfree.

Krishna describes to Uddhava the householder who is bound: obsessed with home, sons and money, and caught in 'me and mine'.
