Uddhava Gita 13.5

13.5 Krishna to Uddhava

agnipakvaṃ samaśnīyātkālapakvamathāpi vā | ulūkhalāśmakuṭṭo vā dantolūkhala eva vā ||

He may eat what has been cooked on a fire, or what has ripened with time; he may pound it with a mortar or a stone, or use his teeth as the mortar.

This describes ancient ascetic practice, told faithfully. It is not health, hygiene or dietary advice; exposing the body to heat, cold or hunger can be dangerous. Discipline does not mean punishing the body.
