Uddhava Gita 15.14

15.14 Krishna to Uddhava

etadvidvānpurā mṛtyorabhavāya ghaṭeta saḥ | apramatta idaṃ jñātvā martyamapyarthasiddhidam ||

Knowing this, the wise person should strive, before death comes, for freedom from rebirth, remaining heedful, knowing that this body, though mortal, can bring the goal to fulfilment.

This verse is about using life well, not about wishing for death. If you are thinking about death or harming yourself, please call Tele-MANAS 14416 now.

Meaning today and context

Our time is limited, and that is exactly what makes it valuable. Don't postpone what matters most to 'someday'.

Krishna urges the one who understands this to strive for freedom before death, knowing that the human body, though mortal, can bring the highest goal.
