manogatiṃ na visṛjejjitaprāṇo jitendriyaḥ | sattvasampannayā buddhyā mana ātmavaśaṃ nayet ||
One should not lose sight of the mind's movement. Having mastered the breath and the senses, with an understanding rich in sattva, one should bring the mind under one's control.
Mastering the breath here belongs to a traditional yoga practice; learn any breath practice from a qualified teacher. It is not medical advice.
Meaning today and context
Watching your thoughts without losing track of them is itself the beginning of control. A calm, clear understanding steers the mind better than force.
Krishna continues: keep watching the mind's movement, master breath and senses, and with a clear, sattvic intellect bring the mind under control.
