Uddhava Gita 17.15

17.15 Krishna to Uddhava

śrotraṃ tvagdarśanaṃ ghrāṇo jihveti jñānaśaktayaḥ | vākpāṇyupasthapāyvaṅghriḥ karmāṇyaṅgobhayaṃ manaḥ ||

Hearing, touch, sight, smell and taste are the powers of knowing; speech, hands, generative organ, anus and feet are the powers of action; the mind, dear one, is both.

Meaning today and context

The mind stands behind both what we take in and what we do. Training the mind therefore shapes both perception and action.

Krishna lists the eleven: the five senses of knowing, the five organs of action, and the mind (Bhagavata 11.22.15).
