Uddhava Gita 17.35

17.35 Uddhava to Krishna

tvattaḥ parāvṛttadhiyaḥ svakṛtaiḥ karmabhiḥ prabho | uccāvacānyathā dehāngṛhṇanti visṛjanti ca ||

Lord, how do those whose minds are turned away from you take on high and low bodies through actions they themselves have done, and how do they give them up?

Meaning today and context

Asking how our actions shape what we become is a serious question, worth sitting with rather than answering in a hurry.

Uddhava asks Krishna (Bhagavata 11.22.35) how beings turned away from God take on and leave bodies through their own actions.
