One who knows a tree's birth and end from its seed and its ripening is a seer distinct from the tree; in the same way, the seer is separate from the body.
Seeing oneself as separate from the body is not a reason to neglect health or medical care.
Meaning today and context
You can watch your body change as you watch a tree change. That watching awareness gives a steady place to stand amid illness, ageing and loss.
Krishna gives the simile of the tree (Bhagavata 11.22.50): the one who sees a tree's birth from seed and its end is different from the tree; so the seer is different from the body.
