Uddhava Gita 18.33

18.33 Krishna to Uddhava

taṃ vai pravayasaṃ bhikṣumavadhūtamasajjanāḥ | dṛṣṭvā paryabhavanbhadra bahvībhiḥ paribhūtibhiḥ ||

Seeing that aged mendicant, an avadhūta, wicked people insulted him, gentle one, with many kinds of humiliation.

This describes how the mendicant bore abuse inwardly; it is not advice to put up with abuse or stay in danger. If you are being harmed, seek help: police 112, women's helpline 181.

People who look powerless, old or different are often the targets of cruelty; the story names this plainly.

Krishna tells Uddhava ('gentle one') how wicked people began to torment the old mendicant.
