Uddhava Gita 2.28

2.28 Yadu to Avadhuta

tvaṃ tu kalpaḥ kavirdakṣaḥ subhago'mṛtabhāṣaṇaḥ | na kartā nehase kiñcijjaḍonmattapiśācavat ||

But you are able, wise, skilful, handsome, of nectar-sweet speech; yet you do nothing and want nothing, like one who is dull, mad or possessed.

Meaning today and context

From outside, a person free of ambition can look strange or even foolish. The world often misreads contentment as lack of drive.

Yadu contrasts the Avadhūta with ordinary people: though capable, wise, skilful, handsome and sweet-spoken, he does nothing and desires nothing, as if dull or mad.
