Uddhava Gita 2.29

2.29 Yadu to Avadhuta

janeṣu dahyamāneṣu kāmalobhadavāgninā | na tapyase'gninā mukto gaṅgāmbhaḥstha iva dvipaḥ ||

While people are burning in the forest fire of desire and greed, you, free, are not scorched by that fire, like an elephant standing in the waters of the Gaṅgā.

Meaning today and context

Desire and greed spread like a forest fire, and most of us feel its heat. It is possible to stand in a cooler place inside, even while the world around burns with wanting.

Yadu says that while people burn in the forest fire of desire and greed, the Avadhūta stays untouched, like an elephant standing in the Gaṅgā.
