Uddhava Gita 2.37

2.37 Avadhuta to Yadu

bhūtairākramyamāṇo'pi dhīro daivavaśānugaiḥ | tadvidvānna calenmārgādanvaśikṣaṃ kṣitervratam ||

Even when trampled by beings who are themselves driven by fate, the steady one who understands this should not stray from his path. This vow I learned from the earth.

Patience like the earth does not mean staying in abuse or danger. If you are being harmed, seek help: police 112, women's helpline 181.

Meaning today and context

People will sometimes hurt us, often driven by their own pressures and conditioning. Like the earth, we can stay steady and not let their behaviour knock us off our own values.

The first teacher, the earth: the Avadhūta learned from it to stay steady on his path even when trampled by others, knowing they too act under forces beyond them.
