Uddhava Gita 3.33

3.33 Pingala

yadasthibhirnirmitavaṃśavaṃsya | sthūṇaṃ tvacā romanakhaiḥ pinaddham | kṣarannavadvāramagārametad | viṇmūtrapūrṇaṃ madupaiti kānyā ||

This house, its beams and pillars made of bones, bound with skin, hair and nails, leaking through nine doors, full of excrement and urine: what woman but me would go to it as her beloved?

Never for someone with an eating disorder, self-harm or low self-worth. The verse is about where one seeks lasting love, not contempt for any body, one's own or another's; Tele-MANAS 14416.

Meaning today and context

She is looking past appearance to see that the body alone cannot give the lasting love she wanted. The point is where we look for fulfilment, not that the body is shameful.

Pingala, disenchanted at midnight, sings to herself; the Avadhuta reports her song to King Yadu. She sees the body she sought pleasure in for what it is.
