Uddhava Gita 9.34

9.34 Krishna to Uddhava

hṛdyavicchinnamoṃkāraṃ ghaṇṭānādaṃ bisorṇavat | prāṇenodīrya tatrātha punaḥ saṃveśayetsvaram ||

Raising with the breath, from the heart, the unbroken syllable Om, which sounds like a bell and runs on like the fibre of a lotus stalk, one should then let the sound sink back to rest.

Practise breath and sound methods with a qualified teacher; never strain the breath. Not medical advice.

Meaning today and context

Chanting Om slowly and continuously, then resting in the silence after it, is an old and gentle way to gather the mind.

Krishna joins the breath practice with the sound Om rising from the heart.
