Upadeshasahasri 14.46

14.46 Shankaracharya

Even if you do not accept that the mind, active in many ways through its own modifications, takes the form of a pot and so on, still the defects of the intellect, impurity, non-consciousness, having form and change, cannot be warded off.

However one explains how the mind works, it remains changing and limited. That is why the teaching never asks you to find your true self in the mind's contents.

Shankaracharya, in the fourteenth chapter of the Upadeshasahasri (on dream and memory), answers an opponent who denies that the mind takes the forms of objects; the sense of the verse is compressed and partly uncertain.
