Upadeshasahasri 15.10

15.10 Shankaracharya

vraṇasnāyvorabhāvena sthūlaṃ dehaṃ nivārayet | śuddhāpāpatayā lepaṃ liṅgaṃ cākāyamityuta ||

By 'without wound and without sinews' one should rule out the gross body; by 'pure' and 'unpierced by evil', the taint [of merit and demerit]; and by 'bodiless', the subtle body.

That the Self is untouched by evil is not a licence to act wrongly or a reason to ignore the harm one causes; nor does seeing beyond the body mean neglecting its care.

Meaning today and context

Neither the physical body, nor the record of good and bad deeds, nor the inner layers of mind touch what you are. Guilt and injury belong to the layers, not to the Self.

Shankaracharya explains the words of Isha Upanishad 8 ('without wound, without sinews, pure, unpierced by evil, bodiless') as each ruling out one kind of body or taint from the Self.
