Upadeshasahasri 15.12

15.12 Shankaracharya

yathā hyanyaśarīreṣu mamāhantā na ceṣyate | asmiṃścāpi tathā dehe dhīsākṣitvāviśeṣataḥ ||

Just as one does not hold 'I' and 'mine' about other bodies, so too [one should not] about this body, because [the Self] is equally the witness of the intellect [in all].

Not taking the body as 'I' is about identity, not self-neglect: keep caring for the body and follow medical treatment. If you feel numb, detached from yourself or in distress, please reach out (Tele-MANAS 14416).

Meaning today and context

When pain or illness comes, there is a way of standing back from it, as you would from someone else's, without denying it. It is not coldness to the body but freedom from being swallowed by it.

Shankaracharya draws a practical conclusion: since the Self is equally the witness of every mind, one should no more feel 'I' and 'mine' about this body than about others' bodies.
