Upadeshasahasri 15.13

15.13 Shankaracharya

rūpasaṃskāratulyādhi rāgadveṣau bhayaṃ ca yat | gṛhyate dhīśrayaṃ tasmājjñātā śuddho'bhayaḥ sadā ||

Attachment, aversion and fear are perceived just as forms and their impressions are; their seat is the intellect. Therefore the knower is always pure and fearless.

Meaning today and context

Fear, craving and resentment are things you notice, like colours or sounds; they live in the mind. The one who notices them is not afraid. This can steady you in an anxious moment.

Shankaracharya argues that desire, aversion and fear are perceived objects lodged in the intellect, so the knower who perceives them is untouched by them.
