sopādhiścaivamātmokto nirupākhyo'nupādhikaḥ | niṣkalo nirguṇaḥ śuddhastaṃ mano vākca nāpnutaḥ ||
Thus the Self has been described with its adjuncts. Without adjuncts it is indescribable: partless, without qualities, pure; mind and speech do not reach it.

Whatever you can say about yourself, roles, traits, achievements, describes the wrappings. What you are underneath cannot be put into words, and need not be.
Shankaracharya distinguishes the Self described with its adjuncts (as knower, doer) from the Self in itself, which cannot be described at all.
