Upadeshasahasri 15.3

15.3 Shankaracharya

phalāntaṃ cānubhūtaṃ yadyuktaṃ kartrādikārakaiḥ | smaryamāṇaṃ hi karmasthaṃ pūrvaṃ karmaiva tattataḥ ||

And what was experienced through to its result, bound up with the agent and the other factors of action, when it is remembered stands as an object of action; therefore it was, earlier too, nothing but an action.

Meaning today and context

Every experience, with its doer, its means and its outcome, was an event in the mind. Events come and go; the awareness in which they happened is not one of them.

Continuing the analysis of memory, Shankaracharya argues that an experience, which involved an agent, instruments and a result, was itself an action of the mind, not of the changeless Self.
