yato'bhūtvā bhavedyacca tasya tatkāryamiṣyate | svarūpatvādabhūtvā na prakāśo jāyate raveḥ ||
What comes into being after not having been is held to be the effect of that [from which it comes]. Since light is the sun's very nature, it does not come into being after not having been.
