nāhorātre yathā sūrye prabhārūpāviśeṣataḥ | bodharūpāviśeṣānna bodhābodhau tathātmani ||
Just as in the sun there is no day and night, since its nature as light is uniform, so in the Self there is no knowing and not-knowing, since its nature as awareness is uniform.
Meaning today and context
Days of clarity and days of confusion are like day and night on earth; for the sun they do not exist. Your awareness does not dim on bad days.
Shankaracharya gives the image of the sun, for which there is no day or night, to show there is no knowing or not-knowing in the Self.
