jātyādinsaṃparityajya nimittaṃ karmaṇāṃ budhaḥ | karmahetuviruddhaṃ yatsvarūpaṃ śāstrataḥ smaret ||
Setting aside caste and the like, which are the occasion of actions, the wise one should keep in mind, from scripture, his own true nature, which is opposed to the causes of action.
Setting aside caste means not taking it as the Self; it is never a ground for ranking anyone by birth, and not advice to abandon one's duties or family.

Concluding the argument against the ritualists, Shankaracharya tells the seeker to drop caste and the like, which drive actions, and keep in mind his own nature as scripture describes it.
