Upadeshasahasri 16.15

16.15 Shankaracharya

śūnyatāpi na yuktaivaṃ buddheranyena dṛśyatā | uktāto ghaṭavattasyāḥ prāksiddheśca vikalpataḥ ||

In the same way, emptiness too does not hold: it has been said that the intellect is seen by another, like a pot; and [something] is established before conceptualising.

Meaning today and context

However empty or numb one feels, the emptiness is itself known. There is always a knower present before any idea about it, including the idea 'there is nothing'.

Shankaracharya rejects the Buddhist doctrine of emptiness (shunyata): the intellect is seen by another, as a pot is, and something must already be there before any conceptual thought.
