Upadeshasahasri 16.28

16.28 Shankaracharya

apekṣā yadi bhinne'pi parasaṃtāna iṣyatām | sarvārthe kṣaṇike kasmiṃstathāpyanyānapekṣatā ||

If dependence is accepted even between different [moments], let it be accepted for another person's stream as well. And in which momentary [entity], serving all purposes, [would dependence lie]? Even so, there is no dependence on anything else.

Meaning today and context

A technical step: without a continuing self, there is no reason my past should shape my future more than someone else's does.

Shankaracharya continues against Buddhist momentariness: if separate moments can depend on each other, one person's stream could equally depend on another's.
