Upadeshasahasri 16.33

16.33 Shankaracharya

sadasatsadasacceti vikalpātprāgyadiṣyate | tadadvaitaṃ samatvāttu nityaṃ cānyadvikalpitāt ||

What is accepted as prior to the conceptual division 'existent', 'non-existent', 'both existent and non-existent': that is non-dual, because it is uniform, and eternal; everything else is conceptualised.

Meaning today and context

Our arguments about what exists and what does not all happen inside awareness. That which is there before every such argument is the one reality Advaita points to.

Shankaracharya identifies the non-dual reality: what is there before every conceptual division into 'is', 'is not' and 'both'.
