Upadeshasahasri 16.63

16.63 Shankaracharya

avasthāntaramapyevamavikārānna yujyate | vikāre'vayavitvaṃ syāttato nāśo ghaṭādivat ||

In the same way, [liberation as] another state is not tenable, because [the Self] is changeless. If it changed, it would have parts, and then it would perish, like a pot.

Meaning today and context

Anything assembled from parts can come apart. The Self is not put together, and so freedom is not a new arrangement of it.

Shankaracharya again rules out liberation as a change of state.
