tadevaikaṃ tridhā jñeyaṃ māyābījaṃ punaḥ kramāt | māyāvyātmāvikāro'pi bahudhaiko jalārkavat ||
That one seed of māyā is to be known as threefold, [appearing] again in sequence. The Self, though changeless, [seems] the wielder of māyā, many though one, like the sun in water.

One sun shows up in a hundred puddles, each image wobbling with its water. You may feel like many different people across your days and roles, while what is looking out is one.
Shankaracharya says the one seed of māyā appears in three successive states, and the changeless Self appears as their master, many though one, like the sun reflected in many pools.
