Upadeshasahasri 17.33

17.33 Shankaracharya

adṛśyo'pi yathā rāhuścandre bimbaṃ yathāmbhasi | sarvago'pi tathaivātmā buddhāveva sa gṛhyate ||

Just as Rāhu, though invisible, [is seen] on the moon, and just as the [sun's] disc [is seen] in water, so the Self, though all-pervading, is grasped only in the intellect.

Meaning today and context

Awareness cannot be pointed at directly, but it shows itself in every thought and feeling, the way an invisible light shows on the things it touches. You meet it in the mind, without it being the mind.

Shankaracharya answers the objection of 17.32 with two images: the invisible Rāhu is seen only on the moon during an eclipse, and the sun's disc is seen in water. So the all-pervading Self is grasped only as reflected in the intellect.
