Upadeshasahasri 17.54

17.54 Shankaracharya

apāyodbhūtihīnābhirnityaṃ dīpyanraviryathā | sarvagaḥ sarvadṛkśuddhaḥ sarvaṃ jānāti sarvadā ||

Like the sun that ever shines with [light] that neither fades nor arises, [the Self], all-pervading, all-seeing and pure, knows everything always.

Meaning today and context

Thoughts come and go, but the awareness in which they appear does not switch on and off. Resting in that steady light is calmer than chasing each passing thought.

Shankaracharya, in the seventeenth chapter of the Upadeshasahasri (on right thinking), compares the Self's knowing to the sun's unbroken shining.
