Upadeshasahasri 17.61

17.61 Shankaracharya

satyaṃ jñānamanantaṃ ca rasādeḥ pañcakātparam | syāmadṛśyādiśāstroktamahaṃ brahmeti nirbhayaḥ ||

'I am Brahman: reality, knowledge, the infinite, beyond the five [sheaths] beginning with the one made of food's essence, the one the scriptures call invisible and so on.' [Knowing this,] one becomes fearless.

Meaning today and context

Fear needs something that can be harmed. Body, energy, mind, intellect and even happiness are layers that change; knowing yourself as what lies beyond them takes the ground out from under fear.

Shankaracharya, in the seventeenth chapter of the Upadeshasahasri (on right thinking), draws on the Taittiriya Upanishad (reality, knowledge, infinite; the five sheaths from food upward) and the Mundaka (the 'invisible').
