Upadeshasahasri 17.63

17.63 Shankaracharya

nāmādibhyaḥ pare bhūmni svārājye cetsthito'dvaye | praṇametkaṃ tadātmajño na kāryaṃ karmaṇā tadā ||

If one abides in the infinite, beyond name and the rest, in one's own sovereignty, without a second, then whom would the knower of the Self bow to? Then there is nothing to be accomplished by action.

This describes the inner state of one who knows non-duality. It is not a licence for pride or for refusing respect to others.

Meaning today and context

When you no longer feel lacking, you stop bargaining with the world for completeness. This is not arrogance; there is simply no one outside you to win over.

Shankaracharya, in the seventeenth chapter of the Upadeshasahasri (on right thinking), refers to the Chandogya Upanishad (ch. 7), where the infinite (bhuman) lies beyond name and the rest and is its own sovereign.
