Upadeshasahasri 17.64

17.64 Shankaracharya

virāḍvaiśvānaro bāhyaḥ smarannantaḥ prajāpatiḥ | pravilīne tu sarvasminprājño'vyākṛtamucyate ||

[The Self] in the outer [waking state] is Viraj, Vaishvanara; remembering within [in dream] it is Prajapati; and when everything has dissolved [in deep sleep] it is Prajna, called the Unmanifest.

Meaning today and context

Waking, dreaming and deep sleep each give you a different sense of who you are. Seeing them as three costumes of one awareness is the first step to not being trapped in any one.

Shankaracharya, in the seventeenth chapter of the Upadeshasahasri (on right thinking), names the Self as it appears in the three states, using the Mandukya-type terms.
