That whose grasping of objects depends on instruments, and [occurs] only while something remains to be grasped, is subject to change, like the mind.
Meaning today and context
The mind needs the senses and something to latch onto, so it is always shifting. What knows the mind needs neither, and does not change with it.
Shankaracharya states the mark of what changes: whatever grasps objects by depending on instruments, and only while something remains to be grasped, is subject to change, like the mind. The witness is not like this.
