Upadeshasahasri 18.167

18.167 Shankaracharya

vivekātmadhiyā duḥkhaṃ nudyate calanādivat | avivekasvabhāvena mano gacchatyanicchataḥ ||

Through the discerning knowledge of the Self, pain is dispelled, as [the illusion of] motion is. [But] by its nature of non-discernment, the mind goes [out] even when one does not wish it.

Meaning today and context

Insight eases suffering, but the old habit of the mind keeps pulling it outward, even when you do not want it to. That is not failure; it is why understanding needs steady practice.

Shankaracharya says that pain, like apparent motion, is removed by the discerning knowledge of the Self; but because non-discernment is its habit, the mind wanders off even against one's will.
