18.212 Shankaracharya

sakāmaḥ sakriyo'siddha iti me'nubhavaḥ katham | ato me viparītasya tadbhavānvaktumarhati ||

'How is it that my experience is “I have desires, I act, I am not accomplished”? So please explain this to me, who [feel myself to be] the very opposite.'

Meaning today and context

Bringing your honest doubt to a teacher is the right move. The question 'why do I feel bound if I am free?' is exactly what teaching is for.

The student's question, in his own voice, addressed to the teacher.
