Upadeshasahasri 18.216

18.216 Shankaracharya

iti praśnānurūpaṃ yadvācyaṃ duḥkhanivartakam | śruteḥ svātmani nāśaṅkā prāmāṇye sati vidyate ||

So what must be said, matching the question, is what removes suffering; and once the Upanishad is a valid means of knowledge, there is no doubt about [what it says of] one's own Self.

The teaching 'you are free' is the direct answer to 'how can my pain end'. Trust in it is not blind belief but recognising it addresses exactly what was asked.

Shankaracharya says the scriptural answer fits the question and can be trusted about one's own Self.
