tvaṃpadārthavivekāya saṃnyāsaḥ sarvakarmaṇām | sādhanatvaṃ vrajatyeva śānto dāntādiśāsanāt ||
For discerning the meaning of 'thou', the renunciation of all actions certainly becomes a means, because of the teaching [that the knower should be] 'calm, self-controlled' and so on.
Renunciation here belongs to the disciplined path of a seeker of liberation; for most people it means inner detachment, not abandoning family, work or responsibilities.
