Upadeshasahasri 18.224

18.224 Shankaracharya

śāstrādbrahmāsmi nānyo'hamiti buddhirbhaveddṛḍhā | yadāyuktā tadaivaṃ dhīryathā dehātmadhīriti ||

From scripture the conviction 'I am Brahman, I am nothing else' should become firm; when it is well established, then it is as [firm as] the notion that the body is oneself.

Meaning today and context

Everyone is effortlessly sure 'I am this body'. Self-knowledge matures when your sense of being the deeper Self is just as natural and unshaken, through praise and blame, gain and loss.

Shankaracharya states how firm the knowledge 'I am Brahman' must become.
