samyagvicārataḥ siddhā rajjutattvāvadhāraṇā | bhrāntoditamahāsarpabhayaduḥkhavināśinī ||

The firm knowledge of the rope as it really is, reached by careful enquiry, destroys the fear and distress caused by the great snake that rose from a mistaken perception.

Meaning today and context

Many of our fears come from how we see things, not from the things themselves. Looking closely and honestly can dissolve a terror that felt completely real.

The author gives the rope-and-snake example: right enquiry ends a fear born of mistake.
