Vivekachudamani 1.136

1.136 Guru to Disciple

niyamitamanasāmuṃ tvaṃ svamātmānamātmany | ayamahamiti sākṣādviddhi buddhiprasādāt | janimaraṇataraṅgāpārasaṃsārasindhuṃ | pratara bhava kṛtārtho brahmarūpeṇa saṃsthaḥ ||

With a controlled mind and a clear intellect, know this Self within yourself directly as 'This am I'. Cross the shoreless ocean of samsara whose waves are birth and death; become fulfilled, established as Brahman.

Meaning today and context

Understanding is not enough; the teaching asks for direct recognition in a settled mind. That recognition, not more striving, is what makes life feel fulfilled.

The guru urges the disciple to know the Self directly and cross the ocean of samsara.
