Vivekachudamani 1.180

1.180 Guru to Disciple

ataḥ prāhurmano'vidyāṃ paṇḍitāstattvadarśinaḥ | yenaiva bhrāmyate viśvaṃ vāyunevābhramaṇḍalam ||

Therefore the wise who see the truth call the mind ignorance; by it the whole world is driven about, like masses of cloud by the wind.

Meaning today and context

When the mind is stormy, everything seems to swirl. Steadying the mind steadies how the whole world looks to us.

In the Vivekachudamani, attributed to Shankaracharya, the guru concludes that those who see the truth call the mind ignorance, which whirls the world as wind whirls clouds.
