Vivekachudamani 1.181

1.181 Guru to Disciple

tanmanaḥśodhanaṃ kāryaṃ prayatnena mumukṣuṇā | viśuddhe sati caitasminmuktiḥ karaphalāyate ||

So the seeker of freedom should purify the mind with effort. When it is purified, liberation is like a fruit in the palm of one's hand.

Meaning today and context

The real work is inner: clearing resentment, greed and agitation from the mind. Once that is done, peace is not far away; it is right in hand.

In the Vivekachudamani, attributed to Shankaracharya, the guru draws the practical conclusion: the seeker must purify the mind with effort.
